Almost 30 and need to move out

I've been living with my parents for the last almost 30 years and it's seriously time to move. They hit some financial difficulty and, against my better judgement, I moved with them to help out even though I had an oppurtunity to move out. Long story short, I want to be able to come and go freely, not have to constantly pick up behind people, or buy more of something because it was eaten a day after I bought it. Not to mention sleep at my boyfriend's house when I'm too tired to drive back home. Problem is I work in social services and really don't make a lot of money ($1600 a month after taxes) and every job I've had has been working with kids whether in a school setting or after school. I have a degree in Psychology but can't do anything with it until I got to grad school. I need help in figuring out what to do.

How about online grad school programs? Stay with your parents till you finish the online school and then move out?

$1600 isn't much, but it's do-able. What about finding a roommate to split the expenses in an apartment. I'm not sure how much they run in your neck of the woods, but even if a 2 bedroom is $1000/month, that's only $500 of your salary, leaving $1100 for other expenses. It may not be the most glamorous apartment but it would get you out of your parents home.

While at your parents home, try to save as much as you can to make a move possible.

Also, what about finding a job outside of social services that would still allow you to work with children. Working for school systems as a psychologist is an option. Always check positions within the different counties to see what's become available.

Or you could move in with your boyfriend if it's at that stage.

    Good luck!

many of my coworkers are in their thirties and have housemates. it seems to be normal in the city (Boston) until you get married or something. there's a guy i know who lived with his fiance and a roommate...

also consider cheaper areas that you could commute from.
