A Myrtle Beach man who led police on a slow-speed chase Sunday night, surrendered soon after running into the Atlantic Ocean, according to Horry County Police Lt. Jay Brantly.

Shannon Lee Burak, 35, was driving a vehicle northbound on U.S. 17 Business around 11 p.m. when officers attempted to pull him over for erratic driving and a missing headlight, Brantly said.

Burak refused to stop, but speeds in the chase didn't exceed 40 miles per hour, Brantly said.

The suspect drove over stop sticks placed on the road by Myrtle Beach Police and flattened all four tires after he reached the city limits. Burak then turned on to Third Ave. North, Brantly said.

Burak threw several baggies into the water as he ran into the ocean, Brantly said. Police were able to recover one of the baggies, which contained a white powdery substance, Brantly said. The substance has not yet been tested, he added.

Burak then surrendered.

Burak is charged with failure to stop for a blue light, driving without lights and no driver's license. He is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Makes you wonder where he thought he was going. But I'm sure his goal was to get rid of whatever those 'substances' were in the baggies! Smiling
