I have recently read The Color of Water by James McBride and I was intrigued from the start. My friend had it in her bag for school reading and I picked it up and read. When I got off from work I went out to buy it. James McBride has written a book about his life growing up being dark skinned and having a "white" mother with 11 brothers and sisters. Then his mother talks about her life growing up in the '30's-40's in America as a Jewish immigrant from Poland. She describes her life living with an abusing father, a crippled mother, and being discriminated. This story talks about mother and son both finding out who they are and where they are from and too look forward.
