So I posted a bunch of these a few months back and everyone seemed to enjoy reading them. Here is another batch of fun movie Trivia and Goofs posted over at Oh No They Didn't

Enjoy!

The Ice Storm

• When asked to say grace, Christina Ricci goes into a tirade about the cruelty that is celebrated as Thanksgiving. She makes a similar speech when making the Thanksgiving toast in Addams Family Values (1993).

• In the novel The Ice Storm, Rich Moody writes "And sometimes Paul himself was Ben Grimm, and sometimes he was Peter Parker, a.k.a. the Spider-Man" Ironically, 'Tobey Maguire ' plays both Paul and Peter Parker in the film versions.

Richie Rich

• When the film was put into production, Macaulay Culkin was nearly five foot six. A cast of tall adults were hired to create the illusion that Culkin was shorter than he actually was at the time. Most of the cast is taller than six foot.

• The Rich mansion is the same one used in Hannibal (2001) as the home of Mason Verger

• Richie's roller coaster is the Iron Wolf at Six Flags Great America.

• Filmed (almost) entirely on location at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.

Practical Magic

• According to Sandra Bullock in the commentary, in the scene where Gillian and Sally get drunk with their aunts and they sling insults, the actresses actually got drunk. They were drinking some very bad tequila that Nicole Kidman brought.

• The entire house was a specially built architectural shell that was torn down after filming. It was built on rented land, and even the blossoms on the trees are fake - made of silk.

• When asked why actresses Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman were to play sisters when they obviously looked nothing alike, director Griffin Dunne stated that when he researched historical witches that often times witch siblings typically looked nothing alike. Thus it made sense that the two were cast as sisters. However, when he was casting Griffin did made sure the two actresses who played Sandra's daughters had features similar to each of the two main stars.

The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood

• Filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina at the same time as was A Walk to Remember (2002).

• As part of the initiation to the Ya-Ya Sisterhood club, Siddalee Walker (Sandra Bullock) has the palm of hand cut. In the movie 'Practical Magic', Sally Owens, Sandra Bullock's character, cuts the palm of her hand too.

The Wedding Date

• The filmmakers tried to use artificial flowers as often as possible because Debra Messing is allergic to real flowers.

• Without the end credits, the movie's running time is a short 78 minutes.

NORTH

• Featured the lone film appearance of Brynn Hartman, 'Phil Hartman' 's wife and eventually murderer.

• There is a myth that Roger Ebert's review of this film contained the first use of "I hated, hated, hated this movie", which became something of a catchphrase. In actuality that is a misquote. Ebert wrote, "I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it."

• Scarlett Johansson's first movie.

Sleepy Hollow

• The town Sleepy Hollow was created from the ground up in three months. At the time of filming, it was the largest set built in England and was put up in record time. The last set that held this record was built for Billy Elliot (2000).

• The Western Wood was built on a sound-stage so everything, the weather, light, could be controlled.

• The Windmill was too large to be constructed on a sound-stage because it was over five stories high. The sails alone weighed over 2 tons.

• The final chase sequence on the coach in the Western Wood took three weeks to film.

• The dress worn by Katrina Anne Van Tassel (Christina Ricci) in the last shot of the movie has the same pattern as Michael Keaton's outfit in the climactic scene of Beetle Juice (1988) also directed by Tim Burton.

Little Giants

• This movie was inspired by an early 1990s McDonald's ad about Pee-Wee Football that ran during the Super Bowl. The day after it aired, Steven Spielberg liked it so much that he called up the ad's creator, James Ferguson, and hired him to write the script for what became "Little Giants."

• Devon Sawa was 15 during filming and much taller than his 10 year old castmates so he can be seen wearing only socks in some scenes.

• John Madden travels around to various football venues, as he does in the movie, on a bus because he dislikes flying.

• Sam Horrigan (Spike) replaced Jon Paul Steuer (Johnny) in the role of Quentin on the sitcom "Grace Under Fire".

The Royal Tennebaums

• The brand of cigarettes Margot smokes throughout the movie were only sold in Ireland and were discontinued in the 1970s. According to director Wes Anderson in the DVD insert (detailing all of the setting and props and the reasons why he used them) this was intentional, both because of the theme of the 1970s and to make Margot's secret smoking habit just a little stranger.

• Throughout the movie everyone wears the same clothing (or some variation of the same clothing). All of the clothing is also from the 1970s. Director Wes Anderson did this intentionally so that it would appear that the Tenenbaums are trapped in the era of their heyday while time moves on (the gravestone at the end reads 2001). Much of the setting, including the use of gypsy cabs and Green Line buses, are also in keeping with this theme.

• Not only does Wes Anderson include an underwater shot in everyone of his films, one person is added for each film. In Bottle Rocket (1996), we have one character, Anthony underwater. In Rushmore (1998), we have a shot with two characters underwater. Then in The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), there are three people underwater. Royal Tenenbaums also stresses the number 3. When the on screen novel reads, "3", it cuts to Ritchie, and the narrator says, that Ritichie had fed his bird 3 sardines. Then next we see Ritichie on the roof reading "3 Plays".

• Wes Anderson wrote the part of Royal Tenenbaum with Gene Hackman in mind.

• Danny Glover, Luke Wilson and 'Owen Wilson' all turned down parts in Ocean's Eleven (2001) to appear in this film.

Ocean's Eleven

• 'Bruce Willis (I)' was cast, but had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts

• The house used as Ruben Tischkoff's home is in Palm Springs, California. It was designed by architect Quincy Jones and was originally built by a Chicago family. Warner Brothers paid $200,000 for its use in the film.

• George Clooney had a keg of Guinness installed in his dressing room.

• The cast did gamble during off hours. While there's disagreement between who won the most (George Clooney says Matt Damon, Damon says Brad Pitt), Clooney managed to lose 25 hands of blackjack in a row.

• In the scene where Rusty is teaching the celebrities to play poker, 'Joshua Jackson' can be seen playing with the skull-ring he wore in the film The Skulls (2000).

• The scene where Brad Pitt teaches 'Jackson, Joshua' and Topher Grace to play poker is spoofed in the Taco Bell commercials "Rules of The Table" and "King of Clubs". The commercials were meant to be so accurate that the very same card table used in the film was tracked down and rented for them.

• Brad Pitt wears a fire tattoo on his left arm. George Clooney sported the same tattoo in From Dusk Till Dawn (1996).

• During the scene where the gang is watching the Bellagio fountains, the lake that the fountains perform in was actually drained on one side and a rail/bar was constructed there so that there would be room for each person to walk away, rather than turn and walk straight into the street.

The Day After Tomorrow

• During the filming of the tsunami scene, Jake Gyllenhaal needed to use the restroom very badly, so he went in the water tank.

• When Sam calls his father to tell him the sewer has backed up into the school, Kirsten Dunst is standing at his elbow, her sweater pulled up over her nose and mouth. Dunst was on set visiting Jake Gyllenhaal, whom she was dating at the time.

• In the scene of the British helicopters crashing, Producer Mark Gordon plays the pilot being instantly frozen.

• One of the buildings seen in the frozen Manhattan is actually the AT&T building (611 W. 6th Street) in Los Angeles.

I Am Sam

• The title for the film was inspired by the character from the Dr. Seuss book "Green Eggs and Ham".

• Dakota Fanning's little sister, 'Elle Fanning' played her at age 3.

• Sean Penn wanted the soundtrack to be all Beatles music, but was unable to get the rights, so he asked various artists to cover the Beatles songs he wanted to use. And in order for the re-recorded music to fit into the movie, each of the artists had to use the same tempo as the original Beatles songs.

• Dakota Fanning's character is named Lucy Diamond from The Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". Michelle Pfeiffer's character's name is Rita Harrison, from the song "Lovely Rita" and the last name of Beatle George Harrison.

Pleasantville

• The Native American in the test pattern behind Don Knotts changes to angry and then sad as the movie progresses.

• The two books that Bud (David) narrates to the teenagers of Pleasantville, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and "Catcher in the Rye," are the two most widely banned books in the United States.

• Since every scene from the middle of the movie on had to be in some way digitally changed to have black and white characters interact with characters who are in color, technically this film had the most digital effects shots until Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999).

• The scores projected during the bowling alley scene indicate all the bowlers are on pace for final scores of 230 or better. Two bowlers have perfect scores through eight frames.

• For the sequence where Bud is applying the gray makeup to his mother, the color of the makeup was actually green. When they had to "black-and-white" the scene, the shades of green came out the best for the appropriate shades of her "gray" make-up. Conversely, when Betty first visits the soda shop, she is in full gray makeup which meant that Joan Allen was shot wearing full green make-up that is subsequently removed by Bill Johnson (Jeff Daniels).

• In a number of scenes, you can see the house used in Lethal Weapon (1987) just across the street from Bud and Mary-Sue's.

Billy Madison

• All of the names on Danny McGrath's People To Kill List (except for Billy Madison and Eric) are those of the crew, directors, or producers of the movie

• Billy grabs Eric's face, kisses him and says, "You broke my heart." This is a reference to The Godfather (1972), where Michael (Al Pacino) does the same to his brother.

• Charles Bronson turned down the role of Billy Madison's father.

Encino Man

• Brendan Fraser is actually eating breakfast cereal when he is sharing food with the dog.

• Film debut of Rose McGowan.

• Jim Carrey and Nicolas Cage were both considered for the role of Link before Brendan Fraser was cast

Clueless

• Alicia Silverstone did not know how to correctly pronounce "Haitians" in the classroom scene. Amy Heckerling told the crew not to correct her because she liked it so much and wanted it to be in the film.

• One of the promotional items distributed to tie-in with the film was a booklet called How to Speak Cluelessly; in it was a lexicon of many of the invented terms used for the Clueless world (some of which became part of real teen lingo at the time). An example: a Baldwin is a very handsome male, as in the famous sibling actors.

• Writers sat in classes in Beverly Hills High to get the flavor of the students.

• During the game of "Suck and Blow" the cast was unable to sustain the breath to make a real credit card pass from mouth to mouth; a prop card made of cardboard was substituted that still did not work. Holes were drilled into it to make it easier, and when this failed also, the whole cast's lips were heavily coated in chapstick to force the card to stick.

• Although Paul Rudd's character, Josh, is in college and is older than the other characters who are still in high school, Stacey Dash, who plays the best friend Dionne, is actually 3 years older than Paul Rudd.

• During the film, there are 53 different kinds of tartan/plaid used, seven of which are worn by Cher, and twelve by other major characters.

Showgirls

• The filmmakers wanted Madonna to play Cristal Conners and 'Drew Barrymore' to play Nomi Malone. The name card Gaye takes off the mirror when she shows Nomi her table in the dressing room even says "Drew."

• Set an all-time RAZZIE Award record with 13 Nominations (with only 12 categories voted that year). Its seven "wins" tie it with Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000 (2000) as the most dis-honored film in RAZZIE History.

• When the film swept The 16th Annual RAZZIE Awards, Paul Verhoeven turned up in person to accept Worst Director and Worst Picture. He was the first director to ever turn up to collect the Award.

• The only time actresses complained that they felt uncomfortable was during the scenes with the monkeys, who constantly stared at their bare breasts.

Striptease

• Demi Moore was paid $12 million for this film, a record fee for a actress at that time. The film was more popular in overseas theaters than in American theaters.

• The little girl who plays Demi Moore's daughter in the movie is actually her real life daughter, Rumer Willis.

• Demi Moore was called back to re-shoot some scenes, and had to wear a wig since she had already shaved her head for G.I. Jane (1997).
