Edamame

Does anyone have a really good recipe using edamame? I had never tried it until about two nights ago. My SIL has been telling me about how healthy it is, and how it's a complete protein, so I got some, but I don't know the best way to serve it. Just heated up as a side? I'd love to find a way to incorporate it into a dish. I was thinking of maybe putting it into a homemade chicken pot pie.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

We eat it as a snack. Either just boiled and lightly salted or boiled with a little bit of soy sauce poured over it.

I love edamame, but I've only had it as an appetizer with Japanese food.

i search for anything on sugar by using google. perhaps type in edamame teamsugar or edamame yumsugar and see what comes up on google.

Ha, Aud, that's exactly what I did. edamame and yumsugar. I found an edamame bruschetta, and edamame hummus and yum's definition of it. Ok. Well, I guess I have at least a start. I'll google some other recipes for it too, and let you all know if I find something good.

Here's a tip (from the search engine nerd):

When you're searching for something on the Sugar sites, type it in like this:

    edamame site:yumsugar.com

    or

    bbq site:teamsugar.com

Etc. That way, Google will only search the site you want.

You might have more luck finding recipes searching soybean instead of edamame.

Ha ha ha, ok barely better luck. Soybean gets you three recipes on AllRecipes and edamame gets you two.

I'm sure they do actually get used in things, but I've never seen them served in any way except fresh, boiled and salted/soy sauced. In Hawaii, they serve them in bars.

    Ok.

My first impression of them the other night was that they kind of taste like boiled peanuts. But better, somehow. And I know that's a big thing in the south, and they're usually just eaten with a little salt. I just want to be able to coax SweetPea to eat them a little bit better maybe in something.

Boiled peanuts are huge in Hawaii, too. I was really surprised when I got here to realize they were a Southern thing. She doesn't like them? My kids don't either, but my brother and I loved them as kids.

She hasn't ever tried boiled peanuts. And the other night when we tried edamame, she wasn't hungry and wouldn't try anything.

Sorry, that was two thoughts in one comment. I was asking if she didn't like edamame. My kids like neither edamame nor boiled peanuts, but I'd like them to like soybeans.

I love edamame! We also eat it steamed with sea salt. It is delicious just like that!

I like boiled peanuts but don't like edamame. Maybe I'm just not cooking it the right way? lol

I use edamame in stir fry, soups, I add it to casseroles. I think it would be a great addition to chicken pot pie. Sometimes I’ll make a kind of succotash with edamame, corn, mushrooms and onions. I posted an edamame spread from Martha Stewart a while ago that I like, but I don’t know how to link it. I usually get the frozen, shelled edamame.

*sigh* i hear you guys on the search. they say it's "in the works" but until then, we'll just have to snack on edamame. I like them as a snack, or just to complement my meal. However like mamafog said, they work really nicely in stir fry.

Oh and here's a tip to help you find things on the sugar sites. All of us sugars use tags (the read related at the bottom of the stories). If you click on one you will get a link like this:

    http://yumsugar.com/tags/edamame

if you know you've seen a story, but can't find it, try changing "edamame" to a word you think we tagged the story with. This is how I find things. hope it helps!

Also thanks for some inspiration, expect to see something about edamame on yum soon!

I don't think that I have ever tried it so unfortunately I am of no help.

SPM, I treat edamame like I would beans. I've used Edamame in my chili recipe. Sometimes I make a tomato/edamame/corn/black bean/parsley salad too. I just add olive oil some salt and freshly squeezed lime juice. It's a protein packed side dish.

Jen's idea of pouring soy sauce over it's yummy too.

I have no clue what this is. I'm going to have to look it up.

Immature soy beans in the pod eh? Actually, I think I might like it.
When you boil them and snack on them, are they eaten warm, or cold or both?

After you boil them Jinx, you can eat them hot or cold. They really have no flavor, and have the consistency of a bean.

So they don't taste like soy? Because I hate soy... I am interested in trying them.

I don't think they taste like soy Kiwi. Jinx, if you have a Trader Joe's they sell them there in the frozen food isle.

We found cooked, ready to eat edamame in the produce section at WalMart. It was near the tofu and juice smoothies.
