I clean my ring in hot soapy water, just soak it in the a glass for about five minutes then wipe dry with a coffee filter since they don't contain lint. Don't use any chemicals, because they can damage the metals and stones. Hopefully this helps, and congrats, I have been engaged for 5 months now, and my ring looks fabulous!

Be very careful and use non-abbrasive gentle soaps on it with hot water.

When I got my ring the guy at Korloff (the jeweller) said this:
Remember, if you WANT to lose your ring, take it off!! Otherwise, be very very careful when you do take it off to clean, etc. You can't lose something that stays on your hand!

My jeweler recommends windex to clean the ring. Coincidentally, windex is also great if you get a little bloated and your ring won't come off without a little help.

Unless you live in a chemistry lab, nothing you have around your house is going to damage the gold, platinum, or stones in your ring. Diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and other stones used in rings are among the hardest substances- a little soap, windex, or 409 isn't going to kill them. Also, an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner will not damage your ring or the setting unless it is vibrating against another piece of jewelry.

If your ring is made of white gold, you might want to periodically get it rhodium coated to keep it shiny and fresh. All rings get bunged up from getting knocked against things, and this is one way to keep a ring looking new.

My fiances dad is a jeweler and he tells all his clients to take a soft tootbrush and a little dab of tooth paste (like crest cavity protection) and wash it that way, to keep your ring clean and not to hurt it. HE also says that every once ina while take it to your local jewelery store to have it cleaned. Ask your fiance where he got the ring, because they usually offer free ring cleaning on rings bought from their stores.

Are you, by any chance, a scientist? The absolute, all time, BEST way ever to clean your ring is with a sonicator -- but a real sonicator, not the cheap-o home ultrasonication cleaning system, or even the kind your jeweler uses. A REAL get-chemicals-into-solution variety sonicator. I just dump mine in whenever I am sonicating samples (in a different beaker, of course!) and it gets ALL the dirt out of the setting. I sonicated my great-grandmother's pave-set engagement ring that I have, and I didn't even realize that the bottoms of the stones are visible, it had that much dirt packed into it!

You're totally right- the lab sonicators are the best! Nothing has cleaned my rings like dropping them in one for a few minutes.

But in the lab I work in now, we use the sonicating bath to break up cell debris in vaccinia purifications. I'm totally not throwing my rings in there now!

Congratulations! I clean my ring with a little toothbrush and soapy water then pat it dry with a micro fiber cloth and use my blow dryer to make sure there's no water left on the little crevices between the stones.

I'm so glad you asked this question! I was wondering the same thing.

I use a product called Razzle Dazzle. When I use it, with an old tooth brush to get the underside of the stone, it looks brand sparkling new! And that's 10 years ago!

so just use amonia and a toothbrush-make sure you get under the diamond too as lotion,soap etc gets down there.

I never take my ring off. I shower with it on, do dishes, go to the beach, workout, etc. Don't worry too much about keeping it clean, the diamonds will sparkle anyway! Every couple weeks stop by the jeweler that your fiancee got it from and ask them to clean it for you. It's free and makes it shine like new!

Congrats on the engagement! I agree with Bearboylvr. Depending on where you purchased the ring, many jewelers will clean it free. They like to see their customers happy.

My ring came from Helzberg Diamonds and they sell a great cleaning solution called Hagerty, it was only about $4 and it keeps my ring looking great, I never EVER take my ring off (exept to clean it of course) so it gets it's share of lotion and hair products but I use this stuff about once a week and it works great.

Hey congrats on ring cleaning be carefull about those sonic cleaners though because if you use them to much it can actually losen the mounting on the stone. periodicaly is ok just dont go clean crazy! but mild soap warm water work great!
