Justin Theroux Says He Cherishes His Relationship With Ex Jennifer Aniston Despite Moving On

Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston are the definition of friendly exes. Since announcing their split in February 2018 after two years of marriage, Theroux and Aniston have proven they're still good friends by wishing each other happy birthday on social media, spending Thanksgiving together with mutual friends, and even teaming up professionally.

In an April 2021 interview with Esquire, Theroux told the publication he may not talk to Aniston "every day" anymore, but they still occasionally call and text each other. "I would say we've remained friends," he said, adding that he and his ex still "love each other" even though they're no longer together. "I'm sincere when I say that I cherish our friendship. We can not be together and still bring each other joy and friendship."

The "White House Plumbers" actor continued to gush over Aniston by saying, "She makes me laugh very, very hard. She's a hilarious person. It would be a loss if we weren't in contact, for me personally. And I'd like to think the same for her."

While Theroux's most famous relationship may have been with the "Friends" star, he's also rumored to have dated a few other famous women in Hollywood — though he appears to be currently single. Theroux's longest relationship was with the costume designer Heidi Bivens. The pair reportedly dated for 14 years, according to People, and lived together in New York City for six years before they officially broke up in 2011, Us Weekly reported. Although there were rumors Aniston had caused Theroux and Bivens's breakup, a source close to the "False Positive" star claimed to People he and Bivens had already split before he began dating the "Murder Mystery" actress.

Theroux and Aniston met on the set of "Tropic Thunder" in 2007, but it wasn't until four years later that rumors swirled they had become a couple. It all began in May 2011 when People reported that Theroux and Aniston had grabbed dinner together in Los Angeles. Although sources claimed to People that they were just "great friends," they noted the pair was acting "flirty" toward each other. That June, the dating rumors only intensified when Us Weekly reported the stars had moved in together and that Aniston was introducing Theroux as her boyfriend. Just a few weeks later, the couple officially went public with their romance when Theroux accompanied Aniston to her handprint ceremony at TCL Chinese Theaters in July.

After a year of dating, Theroux and Aniston took their relationship to the next level by getting engaged in August 2012. "Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage," a rep for Theroux told People at the time.

The couple eventually tied the knot in August 2015. According to People, Theroux and Aniston said "I do" in the backyard of their Bel Air home with 74 of their closest friends and family in attendance. Those included Aniston's "Friends" costars like Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, as well as other major celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Sandra Bullock, and Chelsea Handler.

Theroux and Aniston were married for two years before they announced their split in February 2018. In their joint statement, the pair revealed they had broken up at the end of 2017. "We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship," they said.

Theroux was once romantically linked to artist and director Petra Collins. Just a few days before he and Aniston announced their separation in February 2018, the actor raised eyebrows by tagging Collins in an Instagram post. After news of Theroux and Aniston's breakup went public, the Daily Mail reported that March that Theroux had officially moved on with Collins.

In May 2018, Theroux and Collins were reportedly seen attending a pre-party for the Met Gala together, People reported, and were spotted grabbing lunch with their friends Paul Rudd, Rooney Mara, and Selena Gomez that same weekend. The dating rumors between Theroux and Collins soon died down, however, after he was linked to another major celebrity.

Although they may have started off as friends, fans began to speculate they were an item when they were photographed getting dinner together in New York in May 2018. They continued to fuel romance rumors by leaving the Met Gala together, People reported, with "Divergent" star Shailene Woodley just a few days later.

Theroux and Stone also vacationed together in France People reported with a few of their friends that May, but despite all of their recent hangouts, Stone told Women's Wear Daily that she and Theroux were just friends. "He's like my brother. It's really fun," she said about spending time with the actor.
